Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ — One Euro Journey

No Fine Print. No Black Boxes. Just Answers.

Most projects hide the boring details. We put them front and center. If you have a question that isn't here, email us at info@oneeurojourney.com.

The Basics

QWhat is The One Euro Journey?
A: The One Euro Journey is a public social experiment and transparency-first media project built around one question: Can one person unite 1,000,000 strangers to contribute €1 each? Every step—progress, costs, and milestone impact transfers—is documented publicly.
QWho runs this project?
A: The project is operated by OEJ OÜ, an Estonian private limited company based in Tallinn, Estonia.
QIs this a registered charity or non-profit?
A: No. OEJ OÜ is a for-profit company. Your payment is not a tax-deductible charitable donation.
QSo what exactly is my €1?
A: Your €1 is a purchase of a digital product called a Producer Credit. You receive a unique Producer number (e.g., “Producer #4,502”) and access to transparency-related content (where available). It is not an investment and it does not grant ownership or equity in OEJ OÜ.
QDo I get voting rights for paying?
A: No paid voting rights. Purchasing a Producer Credit does not grant voting rights as a paid entitlement.

If/when we run community input (nominations or polls), it is typically open to the public and used as a community signal. Results are advisory only.

Important:
  • Poll results do not guarantee funding — nominees must pass eligibility verification.
  • OEJ OÜ may exclude invalid, unsafe, or unverifiable nominees and will explain briefly where appropriate.
  • We may use anti-abuse controls (Turnstile/CAPTCHA, rate limiting, and removal of suspicious votes).
QWhy €1?
A: Because €1 is accessible to almost everyone. The point is proving the power of scale + trust, not relying on big donors.
QCan I pay more than €1?
A: Yes. If the checkout offers higher amounts (e.g., €2, €5, €10), you can choose them.

Unless the checkout explicitly states otherwise, one payment corresponds to one Producer record. Paying more is extra support for the project — it does not grant ownership, equity, or extra influence in polls.

Where the Money Goes

QHow is the money split?
A: The project pledge is:
  • 25% of gross revenue is allocated for animal welfare organizations (released at milestones).
  • 75% supports operations (payment fees, hosting, tools, content production, marketing, legal/accounting, taxes/compliance, and project sustainability).
QWhat are “milestone impact transfers”?
A: Impact transfers are made when predefined revenue milestones are reached. The milestone schedule is published on the Website and may evolve over time. When a milestone is reached, OEJ OÜ transfers the milestone impact allocation to eligible animal welfare organizations and publishes proof where appropriate.
QWhere does the money physically sit?
A: Funds are held in OEJ OÜ’s dedicated business accounts (including business bank account and payment processor accounts) and are separated from personal funds.
QWhat if a milestone isn’t reached for a long time?
A: The impact allocation accumulates until the next milestone is reached and released.
QWhat if the project stops or shuts down?
A: If operations cease, OEJ OÜ’s stated intent is to honor the 25% impact allocation to the extent practical and lawful, as described in the Terms.
QDoes the founder take a salary or profit?
A: OEJ is committed to transparency about project costs, including compensation and team payments where applicable. Any material changes to compensation approach will be disclosed publicly before taking effect.
QWhy do fees feel high on €1 payments?
A: Small payments often include fixed processing fees, which can look large as a percentage of €1. This is why the dashboard shows fees openly.
QHow can I contribute with the lowest possible fees?
A: Use direct bank transfer (manual verification may take 24–48 hours to appear on the tracker):
  • Beneficiary: OEJ OÜ
  • IBAN: EE51 7700 7710 1247 0342
  • Bank: LHV (Estonia)

Transparency & Proof

QWhat do you publish publicly?
A: The transparency standard includes:
  • Aggregate totals (revenue, costs, impact allocation)
  • Expense categories + explanations
  • Proof of milestone impact transfers (receipts/confirmations where appropriate)
  • Clear notes about timing delays (e.g., bank transfers, processor settlement)
QWhere can I see the live numbers?
A: You can see progress on the Website (dashboards/counters where available) and the public ledger on the Transparency pages.

Timing: the public ledger is a manual record updated at least once per week (and after major milestones). Small timing gaps can happen due to settlement and verification.
QWill my payment show instantly?
A: Your payment confirmation email is usually immediate for card/Apple Pay/Google Pay. Dashboard counters (where available) may update quickly, but the public ledger is updated manually at least once per week.

Bank transfers: typically appear after manual verification (often 24–48 hours), then show in the next ledger update cycle.

Shelters & Milestones

QWhich shelters receive the money?
A: Impact transfers are released at milestones to eligible animal welfare organizations. The core promise is: milestone reached → transfer executed → proof published (where appropriate).
QWill the community help choose shelters?
A: When community input is active (typically from Milestone 2), we may run:
  • Public nominations (anyone can suggest eligible organizations)
  • A public poll as a community signal (advisory)
Final selection is always subject to eligibility verification and legal ability to transfer funds, and OEJ OÜ retains a safety/eligibility veto.
QHow will polls/voting work?
A: If/when polls are active, the default setup is designed to be low-friction and transparent:
  • We publish a shortlist of verified eligible organizations
  • The poll runs for a defined window (e.g., 5–7 days)
  • Voting is typically open to everyone and results are advisory
  • We use anti-abuse tools (Turnstile/CAPTCHA, rate limits, and suspicious-vote filtering)
  • We publish the results plus a brief decision note (especially if an ineligible entry is removed)
QWhat organizations are eligible?
A: Eligibility is designed to keep impact safe and verifiable. Typically eligible organizations are:
  • Registered non-profit/NGO/charity
  • Animal welfare/rescue/shelter/sanctuary focused
  • Verifiable online presence and official bank account (IBAN)
  • Able to legally receive funds from Estonia/EU channels
QCan OEJ refuse a selected organization?
A: Yes — if an organization is ineligible, unverifiable, engages in unethical conduct, or cannot legally receive funds. In that case, OEJ OÜ will choose another eligible organization and publish the reasoning where appropriate.

Payments, Receipts & Refunds

QIs payment secure?
A: Yes. Payments are processed via third-party providers (e.g., Stripe). OEJ OÜ does not store full card details.
QWhat payment methods are supported?
A: Card payments via Stripe (and Apple Pay/Google Pay where available) plus direct bank transfer.
QWill VAT be charged on the €1?
A: VAT depends on your location and applicable digital-services tax rules. If VAT applies, it will be handled legally and shown transparently at checkout. We don’t promise “no VAT forever” — we promise correct handling + clear disclosure.
QWill I receive a receipt?
A: Yes. After a successful payment, you receive a receipt by email.
QCan I participate anonymously?
A: Yes. If the Website displays Producer listings, you can choose an anonymous display option where available.
QAre refunds possible?
A: Purchases are generally non-refundable because the Producer Credit is a digital product delivered immediately. Exceptional refunds may be considered for duplicate charges, fraud, or clear processing errors if requested promptly.
QWhat if I accidentally pay twice?
A: Contact support with the date, amount, and payment method so the case can be reviewed.

Privacy, Data & GDPR

QWhat personal data do you collect?
A: Depending on your interaction, we may collect:
  • Name/display name and email (for receipts and updates)
  • Transaction metadata (amount, date, payment provider, transaction ID)
  • Basic technical data (for security and analytics)
  • Producer number and public display preference (named or anonymous)
  • For polls (if active): limited anti-abuse technical signals (e.g., Turnstile/CAPTCHA + rate limiting)
QDo you sell my data?
A: No. Data is used only to operate the project and is shared only with necessary service providers (payments, email, hosting) or authorities if legally required.
QCan I remove my name from public display?
A: Yes—contact support. Note that some records may still be retained internally for legal and accounting obligations.
QHow long do you keep records?
A: Transaction records are retained to meet legal and accounting obligations (commonly up to 7 years). Newsletter emails are kept until you unsubscribe. Poll anti-abuse logs (if any) are retained only for a limited time needed to review abuse.

Legitimacy & “Hard Questions”

QHow can I verify this is real?
A: The project runs under an Estonian company (OEJ OÜ) and follows a public transparency model: progress tracking, categorized costs, and proof of milestone impact transfers where appropriate.
QDo you guarantee you’ll reach €1,000,000?
A: No. The goal is ambitious, and results are not guaranteed. The commitment is to run the journey publicly and transparently.
QWhy do some people call it a “donation”?
A: People use “donation” casually in everyday language. Legally and operationally on this Website, the €1 is a purchase of a digital Producer Credit from OEJ OÜ and is not a tax-deductible charity donation.
QWhat stops you from changing the rules later?
A: Trust is the project’s currency. Material changes (allocation model, milestone rules, compensation approach, etc.) should be disclosed publicly and archived before taking effect.

Contact, Support & Partnerships

QHow can I help beyond €1?
A: The best help is to participate and share. If you’re a creator, business, or media outlet, you can also contact us for partnerships or transparent matching campaigns.
